Finding a therapist can be difficult. You want to choose someone who is a good fit for you, or you and your teen, which may seem like an impossible task. My work with teens and adults is grounded in empathy and connection, but I feel it is also important to be direct- to help individuals gain insight into their struggles. I find it rewarding to help people make connections between their feelings and behaviors, and to see them find new ways to express their emotions.
I received my Bachelor’s Degree in Social Work at Plattsburg State University and my Master’s Degree in Social Work at Fordham University. I am a Licensed Clinical Social Worker in both Connecticut and Florida. My work with substance abuse treatment and prevention has spanned my career in a variety of settings, and I have had the opportunity to work with individuals struggling with eating disorders for over 10 years in a residential setting. Throughout my career, I have had the privilege of working on the front lines and over time being promoted to various administrative positions. In my years of experience, whether it be as a Clinician or as an Executive Director, I have been able to see the positive impact my connection with others has had on their ability to grow and effect change in their lives. It is through this connection, that I am inspired to continue to learn and grow as a human being, so I can effectively meet the needs of each individual.
As a clinician for over 15 years, my most inspiring clients are the adolescents and the adults that have overcome the struggles of addiction, eating disorders and family conflict. Effective change happens when strategies address the underlying problem, are individualized, and are creative. The safe space offered in therapy allows my clients to explore their feelings, their choices, and challenge their patterns of behavior. I have worked extensively with teens struggling at school, at home, and on many occasions, with the legal system. My work with parents includes finding effective strategies to reach their teen while opening the lines of communication within the family system. Helping my clients find healthier ways of living is inspiring. I feel it is an honor to walk alongside each individual in their journey to a happier and healthier life.
